Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR)

Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR) is a national programme from NHS Improvement designed to produce grass roots change. It offers one day introductory courses and five day 'practitioner' courses that equip front line staff and service users with the skills they need to put their change ideas into practice. The workshop days are fun, interactive and practical, there are no fees for attending, and the course is worth 30 CPD points.

Hammersmith and Fulham GP Federation is unique in North West London in that it decided to open this training to the whole community in an attempt to build links between services and empower people to create change for themselves. We have now run 7 cohorts, with over 200 people having registered for the 'practitioner' courses. They come from about 90 different organisations from across the health social care and third sectors, and represent over 100 different roles; CCG commissioners, council housing staff, GPs, practice managers, receptionists, nurses, youth works, health visitors, health care support workers, MIND, the Community Garden team, local carers - the list goes on.

Going forward we are hoping to combine this training with an innovative leadership programme for service users that is being developed by Hammersmith and Fulham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), have started to run introductory QSIR courses from GP trainees as part of their training at the Imperial VTS, and are in the process of creating a 'community of practice' with regular drop in sessions to support individuals undertaking small-scale change projects.

Whether you are interested in attending future QSIR courses, want to come to our 'drop in' sessions or simply want more details about how we are supporting change, please get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
